Damn, it feels good to type those words.
My first novel, vN, will be published by Angry Robot Books in August, 2012. They summarize it far more concisely than I’ve ever been able to:
vN introduces us to Amy. She’s been grown in a stable family environment, with her robot mother and human father. But alone of all her kind, her human-protecting failsafe has stopped working for some reason. Soon she’s on the run from the law, and worse – everyone’s after her, some to use her as a weapon, others to destroy her. Her sole friend is a robot boy who’s programmed to only like humans. This is pure science fiction entertainment, combining a stunning extrapolation of a robot future with bravura kick-ass Manga-inspired action – think Philip K. Dick meets Joss Whedon.
Gulp.
Double-gulp, actually, because guess what? There’s a sequel planned.
This post wouldn’t be complete if I failed to thank the people who helped me along the way. I am grateful for the support of my friends, family, workshop members, middle school teachers, convention organizers, university profs, Jesuit priests, publishers, editors, fansubbers, grade school librarians, bosses, blog readers and commentariat who made this possible. In large and small ways, you helped inspire me in this effort. You may not have known it at the time, but you contributed to the writing of a novel about the dynastic feuds of cannibalistic self-replicating robots. (Yes. You there. With the nose.)
Thank you.
